Quote To Know

How many of you have heard someone of a religious faith say something like..."If the Earth were 10 ft closer to the sun, we would all burn up. If the Earth were 10 ft further away from the sun, we would all freeze. God is great"?

Have you stopped to consider what that actually means? Or better yet, how they little they actually understand about the Earth's rotation around the sun? For starters, our position relative to the sun changes every day, and certainly by more than a few feet. Furthermore, we also change our position to the sun based upon the time of year. We get warmer in the summertime because we get closer to the sun!

So if you hear that quote in the future, do the world a favor and let that person know the basic fundamentals of Earth's rotation.

"Big" Government, "Big" Corportations

Whenever we hear the word "big" used as a negative adjective, everyone starts running around in a panic. "Don't let big government control your life". "Don't let the big corporation run the middle class out of the ground". "Don't let big tobacco influence your kids".

No doubt some of the essages are good, but when did "big" all of a suddenly become a big deal? I'm not talking about the Right saying big government is bad. I've seen the Left do the exact same thing on similar topics (usually to attack the Right). Whenever you hear the word big, stop for a second. Think about what that means. What exactly does "big" mean? Does it have a lot of people? A lot of power? Why do we always assume thats such a bad thing?

Get Things Kicked Off

Whether you watch Bill Maher or not, hate the man or love him, you have to appreciate the discusson his show often brings up. This is a short video of Richard Dreyfuss that kind of hits the whole purpose of this blog.

Purpose Of This Blog

I've been looking at blogs for a very long time. Some blogs are personal diaries, some try to make a point, and some have no order or reason to them. I figure that if I want you to come here and read every few days, you should probably know what you're getting in to.

So I'll tell you. Don't worry, there is a tl;dr (too long, didn't read) version for you at the bottom!

This blog is not a right-wing blog. This is not a left-wing blog. This is a blog that takes all the inforation we are force fed every day and puts some perspective to it all.

I am a firm believer that we have become such a misinformed nation that we believe the first thing that we hear. We tune in to CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, talk radio, whatever other source of "media" there is out there, and we take them at their word. We assume that because someone from an "official" source said something, it HAS to be true. We think to ourseleves that they have nothing gain by lying to us. We assume they are right and honest.

What we don't do is that we don't stop to think. We seem to forget that the thing that comes first in all sources of media is ratings. They have to be the first to report something, or the first to make some claim, otherwise they look bad. They don't look as good as the other news sources. Folks, news media is just like humans in general; they make mistakes. You know that saying "haste makes waste"? Well there you go. Oftentimes, we get wrong information as a result, or rather we buy in to things that don't really make sense. This mostly happens in politics, which will likely be the focus of this blog.

You might also find comments on things that companies have done. Or weird things that I've seen other people do that just don't make any sense at all. I suppose this could become like a running verbal analysis of the world. I hope this blog becomes more than that. I hope it becomes a place where common sense can thrive. Maybe I can inspire some of you to stop taking everything at face value and just question!

TL;DR
1. Welcome the blog. Its about common sense.
2. Its about politics
3. Its about the ability to question
4. These are not the droids you are looking for. *hand wave*

As always, I welcome comments! Also, if you like my blog, say something! I'll check yours out as well!
